Curriculum

West Memorial Academy follows the guidelines and curriculum as directed by the Teacher Education Agency. Classes are small (Student / Teacher ratio is usually 8 to 1 or less).

Students will enrich their understanding of the world and themselves by discovering how to interact with others. The one on one experience that West Memorial Academy provides is unique and when paired with the onsite therapist is a recipe for success.

The curriculum is designed for grades 4-8. The emphasis on individual differences creates a unique program for each student to succeed. Specific differences tend to add an atmosphere where each student is given the opportunity to excel in his or her interest area.

Developing a program that is created for an individual student builds on prior knowledge and interest. The use of the specific learning styles, whether it be visual, auditory, kinetic, or a combination, can influence the information a student can retain and grow on.

The curriculum follows TEA requirements, but adds an extra cushion that creates an optimal learning environment for all students.

Social Skills Program

A huge part of West Memorial Academy is the social skills program where the therapist works with the student to identify problems, issues, and behaviors. The goal of the program is to develop a positive self understanding and learn new appropriate behaviors and skills that will lead to successful ways to interact with the family and other students, solve problems, and grow together.
